Objects
I found two dirty, tarnished truck springs, in a field. What compelled me about these springs was the spiral shape and round bar stock. Contemplating this “stock” and “shape” further, I wondered what the springs would look like if I changed the surface material and chrome plated them.
When completed, these springs seemed to transcend into a new vibrant shape. The round bar stock reflecting the surroundings in a surrealistic way and the spiral shape reflecting itself, creating movement. Because they created this dynamic energy I called them Coil 1 and Coil 2.
Coil is the inspiration of this body of work I call ‘Objects’. All of these ‘Objects’, have been transformed by changing their surface material and in some cases their scale, in turn, creating a different representation of the object. These sculptures are cast bronze, stainless steel, brass, steel or aluminum, hand polished and plated in 24K gold, nickel or chrome.
